Rifton Advancement Chair
This new chair is available in three sizes and is built to last with hardwood chair
frame, steel and fiber-reinforced plastic components. They are designed for use with
the M.O.V.E. Program with an aim to encourage a child to not just maintain seating
posture, but to also develop sitting skills . Sitting in a slightly forward leaning position
from the hips encourages the child to actively control his or her head and shoulders.
Enough supports (forearm supports, straps, footboard etc.) are available to maintain
an initial functional posture. As the child progresses with training, supports can be
removed or repositioned so as to free up the shoulders, arms and hands for eating,
writing, playing and communicating. The footboard can be slid back to practice sit-
to-stand with feet on the ground.
As a fully functional adaptive chair it is very adjustable (all tool free) to suit a range
of users and conditions. Seat depth and height are easily adjusted. The backrest
can move through a 15° range. The entire chair can provide up to 20° forward and
5° backward tilting. The trunk support pads with strap can be adjusted in width,
angle and height. The L-bar swings out of the way so a child can be seated and
transferred easily. The arm prompts can be fitted anywhere along the L-bar as re-
quired for arm positioning. The groin strap can assist child in maintaining correct
pelvic positioning.
Options include: Flat or Contoured Headrests, L-Bar, Abductor, Leg prompts, Trunk
