DANMAR PROTECTIVE HELMETS

The first headgear used for special needs purposes were sports helmets for hockey or football. Although converted helmets offered some protective qualities, they added excessive weight, reduced vision, were hard to keep clean, and often did not fit properly.

In the late 60’s Danmar Products Inc (USA) became involved in designing and selling specialty helmets just for special needs use. They worked with medical personnel and caregivers who had experience in adaptations, and knew best what was needed. Over the last 20 years FAS Therapeutic Equipment has collaborated with Danmar Products in supplying their helmets for the Australian Community. Safety, function, and comfort are our priority.

Standard foam colours are Casa Tan, Pink, Royal Blue, and Black. Outer hard shell colour comes standard in a creamy White EXCEPT for Black foam, which comes standard with a Black outer hard shell; Black outer shell is NOT available in XXL. Custom sizing and foam colours are available for an additional charge. They cannot be returned and refunded.

Helmet selection & sizing information

Considerations:

  • Degree of physical activity.
  • Potential for striking surfaces (floor, walls, furniture, etc.).
  • Nature of self-abusiveness.
  • Severity & frequency of seizures or spasticity.
  • Length of time worn.

While we believe that headgear can substantially reduce the risk of head injury, we emphasize that there is no known device for preventing all injuries. Only you the customer are in a position to evaluate the needs of the user in each environment. It is essential that professional and medical expertise be utilized in rendering decisions regarding headgear use. Since proper fit is important for the comfort of the person wearing headgear, measurements are best to be determined by professional personnel.

Measure the head circumference (A) at eyebrow level all the way around the head.

Occipital measurement (B) is taken from eyebrow level to the back of the head at the point that the helmet is to end.

Over the top of the Head (C)from the tip of one ear to the tip of the other ear.

If for some reason the measurements do not fall within the above guidelines, or if there are other considerations to be taken into account, please contact us to discuss on Custom Helmets.
